THE BLESSED JOURNEY
God blessed Betty Ann Platt with happiness, sorrow, excitement and brought her full circle to the end of life's journey upon this earth.
She was born in the small rural town, West Lorne, Ontario. While growing up, she always enjoyed playing with her cousins, but retreated into a shell when she was teased. She could not accept being made fun of because she took it to heart very easily. As a young girl she was terrified of snakes. Betty was frightened by one as a youngster and never could get over the knowledge that they were always around where she was playing.
She started high school at West Elgin Secondary. Betty attended for only two years. She met Bill Platt while at the school. They made a connection and started dating.
During the 1950's she moved to California to finish her high school years. She continued her relationship with Bill back in Canada, albeit long distance. While in the United States, Betty secured employment with Bell. She worked there as an telephone operator. During this time she became engaged to Bill, and kept her relationship intact.
The long distance relationship was hard on both Betty and Bill, and he finally wrote her saying, move to Canada to marry me, or give me the ring back. The rest is history.
She moved back and settled in St. Thomas, Ontario. She worked for Brownley's Pharmacy as a clerk. She rented a room in a boarding house until Bill and her were married January 1st, 1960.
They moved to St. Anne's Street where Betty became pregnant and had a girl, their only daughter Darlene, born March 24, 1961.
During her later years Betty was employed by Zeller's Department Stores where she enjoyed a distinguished career for 25 years. Later, she worked at Biway Department Stores for 10 years. Betty enjoyed long and happy years serving customers and making great friends along the way.
She was a superb cook and baker. Betty loved to make homemade bread and hot cross buns. She would can different fruits and vegetables. She always made a variety of jams and jellies which she shared with those that enjoyed the taste of fresh fruits. She developed a talent for mincemeat pies and tarts at Christmas which were a hit with a lot of people.
Betty loved Niagara Falls, Ontario. Bill, Betty and Darlene would spend countless hours walking and exploring the different scenes the area had to offer.
Betty was a woman with a strong will. She was determined to live life to the fullest. The positive side of things was the only concern that Betty worked towards. She would never hurt or think of destroying any persons outlook.
Betty was well loved and adored. She will be truly missed.
