Obituary of Catherine Ur

Ur, “Catherine” Laura

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Catherine Ur announces her passing on March 25th, 2023 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, one month after her 80th birthday. Beloved wife of Bill Ur of 59 cherished and special years. Loving and devoted mother of Jeffrey Ur and Cindy (Steve) Derbyshire. Proud grandma of the late Caitlyn (1992) Alex, Taylor, Clayton, late Quinn (2015), and Jack.

Catherine is predeceased by her brother John Ratcliffe and Patsy Armstrong, and her parents Mac and Laura Ratcliffe. Catherine will be sadly missed and always remembered by her extended family and many friends throughout her life.

Catherine was born and raised in small town Strathroy, Ontario where she married a local farmer, Bill Ur. They continued to farm tobacco and later asparagus and cauliflower. Catherine was extremely hardworking and learned everything after her previous years living in town. Catherine was a very devoted wife, and they made the best of times together. She continued to work at Strathmere Lodge in the kitchen after the farming years came to an end. There are so many people throughout her life that still remember Catherine and the special ways she touched every person’s life. Catherine was a fighter, right to the very end. Her tenacity, spirit and wit are qualities that will be missed.
