We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who supported us in the recent unexpected lost of our mother and grandmother, Mary Hogervorst. Your kindness, support, phone calls, emails and prayers for her and for the rest of us was overwhelming and we cannot thank you enough for that. We would like to especially thank her brothers and sisters for loving her and being there with us in her last days, particularly when we were able to pray the rosary together for her. Thanks very much to Max and Dora, mom's cousins who arrived from Holland to be with us at this time, as they did for dad 13 years ago - we really appreciate it. To all of her friends with whom she enjoyed many card games, dinners, shopping and day trips, we are so happy that she enjoyed those with you. Thanks to the Sarnia Red Cross for your support to mom for many years and particularly Erika, who has cared for mom so well for more than 9 years. Dr. Beattie, thanks for taking such good care of mom for so many years. And thanks to the staff at Strathroy Hospital for caring for mom over the years and especially in her final days. Many thanks as well to all those who sent flowers and made donations in memory of mom, particularly to the Sarnia Red Cross Home Care and Heart and Stroke Foundation. To the neighbours and friends who brought by food and prepared supper for us, it was delicious. To the CWL Honor Guard at mass and those who prepared a wonderful reception for all of our family and friends, many thanks. Thanks to those who helped us celebrate mom's Mass of Resurrection, the choir, altar servers, flower bearers, readers. Very special thanks to Father Bedard - Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, for celebrating mass and to our visiting priests, Father Morrison (Wingham), Father McNamara (Lucan) and Father Pirt (Byron) - your presence made mom and dad so proud of our family's faith. To Uncle Rudi in Chile - thanks for your prayers and support to all of us over the years and thanks to God for keeping you safe these past weeks.
Special thanks to our children - grandma and grandpa are so proud of the wonderful adults you have become and your participation as pallbearers, flower and gift bearers and readers on grandma's final day was her wish fulfilled.
With great thanks, Tony and Joanne, Pat and Jim, Frank and Lorri, Ben and Jenny and the grandchildren.

Living just a short walk or bike ride down the road, I spent a lot of time at Grandma's house. For a few years, I was there every weekend, helping her with her gardening and things around the house. She loved spending time in her garden and watching the birds come to feast at her many birdfeeders. She also loved playing cards and spending time with her family.
Whenever a friend or one of our cousins came by to visit, you knew it, because she'd talk about it excitedly for days. She was so proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She told all of her friends about our many accomplishments. She loved us all so much and prayed for us every day, and I know she will continue to do so for the rest of our lives.
There were nights when Grandma and I would play cards by candlelight because the power went out. Especially on these nights, she'd tell me lots of stories: stories about Grandpa and about her family during the war. As I got older, she started talking to me about other things, like dating and when she met Grandpa.
Having been only six years old when Grandpa passed away, I didn't get to know him very well and I don't remember very much about him. But through Grandma, my parents, and my siblings, I came to know what a wonderful man he was.
Grandma missed him a lot after he passed away. She said she couldn't imagine ever being with anyone else because nobody could replace Grandpa.
So it makes me happy to think that even though she's not with us anymore, she gets to spend eternity with him and with God, and I know that nothing could make her happier than that.
We love you Grandma, and we miss you already.

13 years ago today, we said goodbye to dad. What better gift could God give to mom and dad, than to re-unite them in everlasting life.
This is not a time of mourning, but a time of rejoicing, and I know one person who is jumping for joy - That is dad.
One night when I was driving home from the hospital, the image of dad pacing back and forth, at the gates of heaven came to me. I could see him looking up to God and saying - When do I get to welcome Mary? I am so excited to see her.
So we should be joyful that a couple that has loved each other for so long, are finally back together. Mom is with her lifetime friend and soul mate.
This past week was spiritual in many ways. One of the most touching times was last Wednesday afternoon, when my brother Tony led the Rosary, with all of us kids there, as well as her brothers and sisters. It was an important time, and I am sure mom appreciated it. There were a few more opportunities that we said the Rosary for mom, just us kids and Joanne, and I am sure that pleased mom.
One of moms most favorite times was Christmas, when she would see all the grandchildren. She loved it when Pat or others, would lead a singsong of Christmas carols. There was always something that occurred during the singing that made for a good laugh.
She also loved the Straatman and Hogervorst reunions. Seeing and visiting with everyone was always a joy for mom.
And how could we talk about mom and not mention how much she enjoyed the grandchildren, family, or friends, coming to see her to play cards. She absolutely just loved playing cards.
And what about mom's love for KFC. Full of cholesterol and all that other nasty stuff. But she loved it and that was a real treat for mom. Her kind and caring support worker Erica, would always know that mom had indulged herself, because her feet would be swollen the next day. Thank you Erica for taking such good care of mom for so long, we really appreciate it.
Mom had a lot to look forward to this summer. She was so excited and looking forward to seeing her first Great Grandchild, due to arrive any day. Valerie and Josh, now, mom and dad will have front row seats together and I am sure they will be there with you.
Weddings! Man, is it going to be a busy summer! Simon and Mary Claire, Nick and Larissa, and Chris and Aiden. I hope you all know that grandma and grandpa will be there with you.
To her brothers, sisters and friends, who have been mom's friend, driving her around, or simply keeping her company, we thank you. She loved the company and companionship, so thank you very much.
Independence is what mom cherished. When Tony, Joanne, Amy and Eric went to Chile, mom was determined to make it through on her own and not be dependent on the other kids. She was always determined to stay at home - independent - as long as she possibly could.
Pat, Frank, and I, want to especially thank Tony and Joanne and their family for being there for mom, over the past 13 years. They and their children gave mom many good times, and were always there to give mom a helping hand. For this, we are forever grateful. Thank you all.
We are grateful for the years we had with mom, and the leadership mom gave us as children, and grandchildren. Her spiritual belief and guidance to us, was always important.
Mom, you have been a great inspiration. We love you! Now, go and enjoy the rest of eternity with dad.
