We'll remember uncle Roy as a family member with a caring personality, a warm smile and wonderful stories. Debbie and I got to know uncle Roy better during our visits to Bobier Villa in recent times. We know that his sister; our mother Eileen Kozdras, took comfort in knowing he was nearby.
While listening attentively to his thoughts on one occasion last year I recalled a time when our friends on a boating trip from Toronto to Sandusky Ohio were caught in a storm on Lake Erie several miles offshore from Wheatley in several power cruisers. One boat became tangled in commercial net. Although the trip occurred years after uncle Roy's retirement I never had the courage to tell him about the event or the damage that must have occurred to the fisherman's net (we towed the 40 footer 20 miles in rough seas to safe harbour).
In retrospect, I suspect he would have chosen his words carefully and gone on to tell us of the occasions when this actually happened to his gear, how frustrating it was, and the hours and expense required to repair the net. But knowing uncle Roy as we grew to know him in recent years I'm certain he would have been gracious, thoughtful and would have said something warm and kind, if not funny.
We'll miss him dearly. Our entire family extends condolences to aunt Mary, and her immediate and extended family.
