Obituary of Norma Blain

Norma S. Blain passed peacefully at Caressant Long Term Care Home in St. Thomas on August 23, 2013, in her 86th year. In 1975, Norma moved into Beattie Haven with her mother Lulu Turk (passed n 1979). Norma was predeceased by her father George Blain in 1975. Norma called Beattie Haven her home for the next 38 years. She was by far the longest term resident in the history of the home. Norma regularly helped the staff collect the dishes after meals and deliver them to the kitchen for cleaning. Norma continued this clean up assistance as well as picking up the mail daily, until a stroke in 2011 robbed her of the ability to continue helping. Norma kept a personal diary of her stay at Beattie Haven and documented staff changes for directors of care, administrators etc. and many daily activities. She was quite proud to share the journal with all the staff or any visitors to Beattie Haven who were interested. Norma will be missed by the staff, both past and present, who considered Norma a long term member of the Beattie Haven family. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be conducted at Purcell's Cemetery on Johnston Line on September 13 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Steven Filyer. All attendees are invited to return to Beattie Haven for refreshments at the conclusion of the service.
