We were saddened by Sophie’s death, as we had become good friends over the past 12 years. We met her playing shuffleboard and found her to be a determined competitor. She was very proud of her family members and never missed an opportunity to bring a visiting son, or a niece or nephew to play shuffleboard with her friends in Rodney. She also enjoyed playing cards and other entertaining games of chance, locally and far afield.
Sophie was not a person to take a kindness or a favour for granted. She went to great lengths to reciprocate every favour in one manner or another.
Living independently into her 91st year is a credit to her strength and determination. She often talked of leaving her home and moving into a retirement community. However, the waiting times to access preferred facilities can last many years.
One of her fondest and proudest events was visiting Ralph and his family in Victoria where nieces and nephews showed up at a surprise party to help her celebrate her 90th birthday. Many times she spoke lovingly of that special day.
We’ll all miss her company and friendship and will allow her memory to live close to our hearts.

My father George Gal of Rodney Ontario let me know today about the passing of your mother Sophia Gal. My mother's name was also Sophia Gal. I remember visiting your parents more than 20 years ago at the farm in Rodney. We were blessed with such wonderful hard working parents. Blessings to you and your family at this time
