Obituary of Stephen Leslie Cooper

Suddenly at home in Strathroy, Ontario on Friday, September 11, 2015. Stephen (Steve) Cooper in his 70thst year. Predeceased by his parents Win and Joan of Ingersoll. Survived by his brother Tim (Susan Bleakney) of PEI and three nephews Philip, Daryl and Ben and their families. Stephen will be very much missed by two special friends, Karen Nordin and Susan Knutson and of course by Rex – the dog he loved to distraction. Stephen lived a contemplative life. He was happiest with his books and music or when walking the dog in the local Conservation areas. He was very proud of the fact that he had hiked the Bruce Trail from end to end and the time he spent with the hiking group was one of his happiest. Stephen worked as a counsellor for Goodwill Industries for many years and ended his career as an Accident Benefits Adjuster. After retirement he went back to university to obtain a degree in English. Upon his death he was only 2 credits short of this goal which would have been his 2nd degree. Stephen was a beautiful pianist but often checked with the neighbours to make sure his playing was not disturbing them – no one ever complained. Stephen loved to garden. He also tracked the migration of the hummingbirds and orioles in the Spring in order to have their feeders ready when they arrived. Stephen was an excellent son who was always there for his parents as they aged. Although he may have lived a somewhat solitary life by choice, he has left a bigger mark in this world than he would ever have thought. He will be missed. A private gathering of friends will be arranged in the near future to celebrate Stephen’s life. Please contact Susan Knutson at sknutson@bell.net or 519-245-3181 for further details. Arrangements entrusted to Denning’s of Strathroy.
