Obituary of Dan Perovich

PEROVICH, "DAN", DESIMIR. Peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Beattie Haven Retirement Community, Wardsville on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his loving wife Olga (2011). Born in Selichte, former Yugoslavia, on August 28, 1921, he immigrated to Canada in 1956 to Rodney and settled in Rodney permanently in 1962. Loving father to Alex (Bea), Lily (Rick), Mary (Jerry), Mike (Trish). Cherished grandfather to Vicky (Syd), Melanie (Steve), Michael (Shannon), Jason, Mitchell, Justin and great grandchildren Allison, Katelyn, Derek and Sami; and brother-in-law John Percic. Dan graduated from the Royal Yugoslavia air force as a Lieutenant in 1941 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 525, Optimist Club of West Lorne and Kiwanis Club of Rodney. Dan served as a councillor, deputy reeve, then as Reeve of Aldborough for two consecutive terms. He was also a successful tobacco farmer and later served as a director on the Ontario Flue Cure Tobacco Marketing Board. He was one of the founders of the local Serbian Orthodox Church, "St Elijah" in Eagle. He and his wife enjoyed many long winters in sunny Florida and continued to remain active in current affairs in his community. Friends may call at the RODNEY CHAPEL OF DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS LTD on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Legion service at 2pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11am., Fr. Vas Payaovich celebrant.
