Obituary of Peter Brander
With great dignity, tenderly cared for by his devoted wife and with family by his side, Peter Clark Brander passed away peacefully at Strathroy Hospital on Monday, November 19, 2007 in his 73rd year. The Beloved husband of 52 years of Elizabeth. Dear father of David and Donna (nee Cooke), Heather Dobbie and husband Peter, Colin and Barb (nee Suplat). Cherished Grandpa of Christine, Michelle, Matthew, and Keith; of Lauren and Meagan; and Sarah and her husband Chris Bongers, and Laura. Peter will be sadly missed by his sisters Irene Mentiplay and Olive Brander of Aberdeen, Scotland, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews in Scotland, Canada and the United States. Pre-deceased by his parents and sister Margaret in Scotland and brother Melvin of British Columbia. Peter was born in Aberdeen, Scotland February 6, 1935. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 to join his brother, the late Melvin (Jock) and his family. Elizabeth followed in 1955 to marry and make her life with Peter. After settling in Blind River, Ontario, and the arrival of David and Heather, they moved to Goderich, Ontario and completed their family with the birth of Colin. Peter was a member of the Lions Club for many years in Goderich, and is fondly remembered by friends there. Peter, always a hard worker, enjoyed happy years in his business as Brander Construction before moving to the Strathroy area and establishing Brander Steel Industries. After retiring from Brander Steel in 1991, Peter was active in an outdoor life building cedar furniture, and took great pride tending resplendent vegetable and flower gardens with his wife at their home. Peter leaves a treasured circle of friends in the Centre Road area. To honour Peter's request, a private family memorial service will be held at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy with Rev. Larry Amiro officiating. Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, V.O.N. or charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree planting ceremony in Victoria Park, Strathroy will be held in May 2008 in memory of Peter, with details provided by invitation.
