Obituary of Robert Arthur High
Robert (Bob) Arthur High (1938 - 2024)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Arthur High, who died surrounded by family on December 14, 2024, at Strathroy Hospital, at the age of 86. Bob was a loving husband, father, papa, and great-papa whose warmth, dedication, and sense of humour touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born on March 19, 1938, in Montreal, Bob spent much of his early life in Windsor before meeting the love of his life, Carole, in London.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carole High ( nee Wright), of 66 years. Bob was a proud father to Cindy (Kevin) Rowe, Dan (Ann) High, Debbie Wallace, and Bonnie (Brian) Letnes. He was a devoted Papa to many grandchildren: Matt (Crystal) Rowe, Melissa (Eric) Richer, Sean Rowe, Heidi Wallace, Ken (Lindsay) Letnes, Jon Wallace, Latasha Letnes, Bobby High, Danny High, Caroline (Scott) High, and Natasha High, and great-papa to 11 great grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who loved him.
Bob's dedication to service was evident throughout his life. He served for 13 years in the military, where he was stationed in Meaford, Germany, Centralia, Calgary, Rivers, and Oromocto. His military career shaped much of his life and character.
After leaving the military, Bob worked for 30 years at Ford in Talbotville. He was also deeply involved in Scouting for many years in both London and Strathroy, earning the affectionate nickname "Buff Bob" from members of the London group. His influence on young lives through Scouting left a lasting legacy of community service and leadership.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth, and his siblings, George, Gordon, Betty and son in law Leslie Wallace.
Bob’s beloved wife Carole, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his large extended family will continue to honour his memory. Bob's legacy of love, service, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.
A visitation will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 10am until the time of service at 11am, at Denning’s of Strathroy, with a luncheon to follow, catered by Denning’s. The interment will take place after the lunch at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in London.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
