Obituary of Bruce David Bycraft
BRUCE DAVID BYCRAFT
At University Hospital, London, ON, with family at his bedside, after a brief illness on November 13th 2024, in his 90th year. Loving husband of Lorna (nee Sinclair); dear father of Tony (Sheila), Janice (Ron), and Allyson; beloved grandfather of Jeremy (Christine), Joel (Sylvia), Steve (Kristen), Jackie (Max), Tory (Phillip), and Colleen (Mitch). He will be deeply missed by his 4 great-grandchildren and by close family friends, Jill Jeneroux and Christine Welch, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbours. Bruce was the brother-in-law of Helen Ruggieri. Pre-deceased by son, Alan, and by brothers, Jamie and Bob, and sister, Ruth (Zavitz).
Bruce, like his ancestors, was a lifelong Lobo Township farmer and engaged community member. Always known for his honesty, integrity, and humility, in his own family he served as their moral touchstone for 60+ years. After retiring from active farming, Bruce was an insurance adjuster for Lobo Mutual Insurance where he conscientiously demonstrated fair dealing and compassion. He loved music and dancing—he and Lorna could really cut a rug—and he was a true nature lover, delighting in all his eye could see on his almost-daily walks, witnessed by many in the neighbourhood over the past several years. He was devoted to Lorna, and in recent months, mastered many new skills as her primary caregiver—a role he cherished and at which he excelled.
Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY on Saturday, November 23rd, from 9:30am-10:30am. A funeral service will follow at 10:30am. Interment at Society of Friends Burial Grounds, Coldstream.
Donations in Bruce’s name can be made to Middlesex Centre Archives or Ailsa Craig Foodbank.
