Celebration of Life
Obituary of Frank John Vandeschoot
Vandeschoot, Frank
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frank Vandeschoot, who left us peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on November 7, 2024. Born on October 7, 1957, in Watford, Ontario, Frank lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. Frank was first married to his high school sweetheart, Judy Vandeschoot (née Brown), who sadly passed away in 2002. They welcomed two children, Leisha (James Ellis) and Sean (Diana), who brought him immense joy. He later married Linda Vandeschoot (née Van Kessel), embracing his role as a devoted husband and stepfather to Brett and Taylor Veens. As a proud grandfather, Frank adored his grandchildren, Makenna Awdi (Mody), Brody Elis, and Ethan Vandeschoot. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his love legacy will continue through their lives.
Frank was raised in a close -knit family, the son of Johanna (Anny) and John Vandeschoot, who immigrated from the Netherlands. His four siblings survive him: Mary-Ann Williamson (Ken), Dave (Lorie), and Nancy Davies (Gerry). Frank was also a beloved uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss his warmth and guidance. Beloved son-in-law to Harry and Emma Van-Kessel. Dear brother-in-law to Harry Van - Kessel jr., Jennifer (Mike) Duffy. Frank will also be missed by his dear friends Mike and Carrie Hollingsworth.
Known throughout Watford for his dedication, Frank worked at Watford Roof Truss from his teenage years, building lasting friendships with his coworkers, who will miss him dearly.
His dedication and hard work have left a lasting impact on the company and the community, and for that, we are forever grateful. Frank was also an avid golfer, baseball enthusiast, and die-hard hockey fan, especially of the Detroit Red Wings. He proudly refereed hockey in Watford for many years, sharing his passion for the sport with the community.
Frank's love for woodworking was more than a hobby, it was a passion that he poured his creativity into.
His delightful creations, particularly his birdhouses, were a testament to his skill and imagination. His family often joked about his charming mailbox, which he claimed was a cabin, but everyone knew it looked like one of his beloved birdhouses. Frank was not only hard-working and devoted, but also a man of warmth and love. He had a special bond with his dogs, Jack and Baxter, who were more than pets to him -they were his companions and friends: we can imagine them joyfully accompanying him now, as they always did in life.
A special thanks to the staff at the London Regional Cancer Centre. The Bluewater Health Palliative Care team lead by Dr. McSweeney. A special thanks to the wonderful staff of the VON of nurses and PSW’s.
Frank was a relaxed, laid- back guy who would want nothing more than for us to celebrate his life, not mourn his passing. He'd probably tell us to stop crying and raise a cold can of beer in his honor. So, let's do that - cheers to Frank, a wonderful man who brought joy to our lives.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, at the Watford legion, from 1 to 4 pm. Since Frank was a huge Detroit Red Wings fan, wear your Red Wings jersey. In place of flowers, donations in Frank's memories can be made to the VON or the Watford Legion Branch 172. Online condolences and donations may be made at www.watfordfuneralhome.com.
