Sutherland, Mac J.
With heavy hearts and surrounded by family, the family of Mac J. Sutherland announces his passing on August 6th, 2024 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. He was just three weeks shy of celebrating his 96th birthday.
Born on the family farm in Caradoc Township, Mac was one of eight children of Arthur and Jennie (Blair) Sutherland.
Beloved husband of Joanne (Nevin-Thompson) Sutherland. Much loved father of Susan “Sue” Sutherland. Remembered by his son Allen Sutherland. Cherished grandfather of Kasey Sutherland and Danny Sutherland. Missed by his sister Dorothy Glover and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife Velda (Grosvenor) Sutherland, son-in-law Bob Blair, daughter-in-law Kerry (Bidner) Sutherland, grandson Brian Sutherland, his brother and sisters and their spouses Wilfrid (Marion) Sutherland, Mabel (Wallis) Reilly, Alice (Ray) Earley, Gladys (Evan) Richardson, Mary (Don) Clark, Evelyn Sutherland and brother-in-law Leslie Glover.
Mac is also survived by Joanne’s family, step-daughter Colleen Mathers (Mike) and step-son the late Jeffrey Thompson. Papa Mac to Gregory Mathers (Laura), Sarah Mathers and great papa Mac to Thomas Walsh, Nova Mathers, Cam Mathers and Michael Clark. He will be missed by Joanne’s siblings Sharon Lagerwerf (Don), Barry Nevin (Mary-Beth), Pam McLinchy (Ron), and the late Ron Nevin.
Mac was proudly in the home construction business for over 50 years. He enjoyed many winters in Florida. Mac was an avid card player and gardener. He was a member of the Mt. Brydges Lions Club for 54 years achieving life membership status.
His family would like to thank Dr. Whynot and the staff of AgeCare Parkhill for Mac’s care over the past two years.
As per Mac’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 pm at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY with a Lions Memorial Service at 6:30 pm. Memorial Service to take place at the funeral home on Monday August 12, 2024 at 1:00pm with visitation one hour prior. A private family interment will take place at Nairn Cemetery.
