Obituary of Willem Tjalke Vanderwel

The family wishes to announce the passing of Willem “Charles” Vanderwel on July 3rd, 2024, at the age of 97. Loving husband of Henrica, predeceased by his first wife, Ettjie (2004). Caring Dad to Chuck (Joanne), and Rob (Elizabeth). Step-Dad to Gerry Jurjens (Johanna), Henry Jurjens (Ina), Louis Jurjens (Joy), John Jurjens (Cheryl), Dennis Jurjens (Marg), Rick Jurjens (Brenda), Jim Jurjens (Lisa), and Joanne Kroezen (Walter). Loving Grandpa to Daryl (Amy), Mike (Kristina), and Christopher (Melissa). Proud Grandpa of Jordyn, Abby, Jerritt, Derek, and many other Grandchildren. Opa to many great-grandchildren. Survived by his sisters Trudy Vander Hoek (Bert) and Helen Barton. Predeceased by brothers Wim, Douwe, Thies, John, Leo, and Frank; his sisters Tineke and Mies. He will be greatly missed by many extended family and friends. In the Netherlands, Charles was proud to serve in the army for his country in Indonesia and was the recipient of a prestigious medal for “Order and Peace.” After his retirement from farming, Charles enjoyed going on cruises, travelling, and hiking in the outdoors with his wife by his side.

 The family would like to thank the staff at Strathmere Lodge for their great care over the last year and a half.

 A visitation will be held at Compass Community Church, on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10am, until the time of service at 11am, followed by a luncheon to be catered by Denning’s at the church. An interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery in London at 2pm.
