Obituary of Beverly Jane Caverhill
It is with sadness we announce that Beverly Jane Caverhill passed away on May 31, 2024, at Craigwiel Gardens in Ailsa Craig, Ontario, at the age of 78. Bev was born on July 25, 1945, to Clinton Roger Rand and Gwenlyn Jean Gillespie in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Bev grew up in Yarmouth, NS and was involved in sports and the Glee Club in high school. She studied at the Sir George Williams School of Retailing in Montreal, where she earned the Gold Medal.
Following university, Bev moved to London, ON, where she was employed with Kayser-Roth as Assistant to the Vice-President. Bev enjoyed music and met Rick when he was playing in a band. On October 6, 1973, Bev married Richard John Thomas Caverhill, son of George and Elizabeth (Jennie) Caverhill, in Yarmouth, N S.
Bev and Rick took pride in Sprucedale Orchards, where she supported him as he grew the best apples. During harvest season, she would be busy in the apple shed serving and visiting with the many customers who came year after year. They welcomed many school groups, providing children with a first-hand experience of picking and eating apples fresh from the tree. Bev had a sharp mind and a keen interest in politics and enjoyed a good discussion on the politics of the day with those who were up to it. To get her riled up, you only needed to mention the name of the current prime minister, and she would have a lot to say.
Bev was pre-deceased by her husband, Rick, her father, Roger and her mother, Gwen. Bev is survived by her brother Fred Rand (Catherine Samson), nephew Gregory, and niece Victoria, and will be greatly missed by her sister Cathy Smith (Alan) and their children Matthew, Ryan and Elizabeth, who have fond memories of times spent in the orchard, the garden, and dinners around the big table in the old farmhouse.
We, the family, wish to thank Dr. Whynot and the amazing staff at Craigwiel Gardens for their loving and compassionate care for Bev during her long stay with them. You became family when we could not be there. We could not have asked for better care for her.
Those who wish to make a donation in memory of Bev may contribute to Building a New Craigholme (Craigwiel Gardens) or a charity of your choice.
A family gathering to celebrate Bev’s life will be held at a later date, with interment in Ivan Cemetery.
