Obituary of Eleanor Mae Blain

 

 

Peacefully surrounded by family on April 14, 2024, at Riverview Gardens, Eleanor Mae Blain (nee Paton) passed away at the age of 90. Eleanor was the loving and devoted wife of Wilbert Blain for 70 cherished years. She was the proud mother of Peter, Diane (Serge), the late Karen (2012) (the late Joe (2021)), Tim (Mona), and Rob (Karen). Eleanor was the beloved grandma of Tammy (Vatche), the late Joe (2022) (Laura), the late Trevor (2008), Brandie (Jamie), Nicole (Frank), Julia (Keelan), Natalie (Nick), Amanda, Taylor (Brad), Camille, and Ayden. Great-grandchildren Amelia, Joey, Lucas, Adrian, Sevan, Tarro, Taavi, Ethan, Ainsley, Adalyn, Anderson, Evangeline, Gracie, James, Thomas, Oliver, and Nolan. Eleanor is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

 

Eleanor was born to Glenn and Delma Paton on March 23, 1934 in Rodney. As a child, she loved spending her summers at her grandparents’ farm on Fleming Line. Eleanor was a proud descendant of pioneering Southwestern Ontario settlers. Eleanor and Wilbert would make their home on Beattie Line, just a few kilometers from where her ancestors settled.  As a teenager Eleanor worked the telephone switchboards in Rodney. Later on in life, Eleanor went back to school to become an RNA working at Beattie Haven for 27 years. Throughout her career in healthcare, Eleanor made many incredible achievements. She was a founding member of CCAC now HCCSS. Eleanor took great pride in being an active member of the local Rebekah Lodge. Eleanor was a devoted person of faith at Wardsville United Church. She was always willing to offer her time, skills and talents to support the various activities and functions of the church. In her retirement, Eleanor and Wilbert enjoyed camping. Eleanor was a very gifted knitter and quilter, and even helped to found the Quilt Trail across Ontario.

 

Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF RODNEY on Sunday April 21, 2024, from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday April 22, 2024, from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Interment to follow in Rodney Cemetery.
