Hi Mrs. Larocque,
I am very sorry to hear of John's (Coach John) passing. He was a great man and hockey coach for me in my youth, and to this day I think about him and those days at the rink. As a 49 year old man with my own sons in hockey I still remember that smile and his voice "go get them"

Our most sincere condolences to Nancy and family. John was always a very happy and most pleasant man. His walk included our mail route for a number of years. He was.a true professional in his work. On the hottest of summer days John would never accept a bottle of cold water. He was always willing to engage in conversation and was dependable along with Nancy to look after the church. You will truly be missed in our community. Kaye, Gerry Adlington

Sending condolences to Nancy, Karen and Kathy and their families.
We first met John when he was our mail carrier, our son would wait patiently on the front porch for “John-man” to come along and give him a handful of elastics. Brent curled with “Highpockets” John, “Turkey” Turner and Kenny Pray and in later years, John and Brent played ball together with the Strathroy Gofers……lots of laughs and the odd game of good baseball.
John always had a smile or a funny story for whoever would listen. He will be missed by many!

Truly representative of all he has been: in service to his family, his community, his faith, his friends and his country. Thanks Big John. What a gift. ♥️

We were saddened to hear the news about John. So many fond memories came flooding back of get togethers and time spent at your home and at the rink. He could always make us laugh! We were thankful that Jesse had a good home to stay in when he billeted in Strathroy for hockey, with people that cared about him. John will be missed and fondly remembered by his friends in the Strathroy community and those who love him. He's left his mark on many of our hearts. Hoping you can find strength by leaning on your family, friends, neighbours and faith for comfort and support in the days ahead.

I had the privilege of spending 4 years with the Larocque family during my time with the Rockets. There is no greater service in life than inviting up to 4 strange teenage boys to live in your house. I still look back at times and wonder . . . . . what were John and Nancy thinking? What they were thinking of . . . . was anybody but themselves. They gave their time and energy to teenage boys at the most important time of their lives. For that, I will always be truly thankful for. My time with John, Nancy, Karen, Kat, Jared Keeso, Alan Keeso, and the rest of the boys were the best of times . . . . period!
I will always remember John for his jokes and comments following a game, which always put things in perspective no matter how bad we played! He always had a smile or a goofy look on his face that made everyone laugh. I also remember John's stick shift lessons in the old purple Cavalier. Hard to believe that car survived those years.
Thank you John! You will be missed!
With Love, Jesse Schroeder

John and Nancy were my billet parents in Strathroy for two years while I played for the Rockets. They opened their home to not just me, but also to my nut sack brother Al, as well as Jesse Schroeder who is an even bigger nut sack. We had so much fun there. They showed us patience, kindness and caring. We have many great memories of throwing the frisbee around in their big back yard, swimming in the pool and playing with Phoebe the Irish Setter (aka Phoebe Setterov). I will always remember John's Dad jokes (otherwise known as bad jokes) and how funny he always found them. John was a true salt of the Earth man, a proud Canadian and had a smile that made everyone else smile. The Keeso's are so thankful for John, Nancy, Karen and Kat for the love and support they showed us during those years - very important years in our lives. Thank you, John, for everything you did for me (an actor/writer/producer in a competitive Canadian TV landscape), my brother (a nut sack), and Schroeds who probably still pees sitting down. You are missed. Love from Jared Keeso

Highly regarded in their community, John and Nancy were special billet parents to our sons Alan and Jared when they played hockey in Strathroy over 20 years ago. We will always be indebted to John and the Laroque family for faithfully being there in those formative years of our sons.
