Obituary of Joyce Constance Tisdale

Joyce Constance (Lavery) Tisdale

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joyce Constance Tisdale (nee Lavery) peacefully on October 25, 2023, at the age of 94. Married for 42 years to her true love, the late James Tisdale (1992), Joyce is also predeceased by parents Carl and Florence (Pymm) Lavery, brother Lloyd, son David Tisdale (2006), daughter Lynn Tisdale (2022) and grandson Evan Worrall (2022). She will be sadly missed by her daughter Kathryn (Brian Worrall) and sons Mark (Deborah) and Stephen Tisdale, her grandchildren Aileen Worrall, Danyelle Dagenais, Rachelle Dagenais-Saka, Liam Donovan, her six great-grand children and three great-great grandsons.

Joyce was born in Saskatoon and spent part of her childhood in Regina and Winnipeg. Her family was preparing to move to England when chance and opportunity brought them to Windsor. In Windsor, a young Joyce met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Jim. After going steady at Kennedy, the young couple attended Teacher’s College in London before starting careers in Windsor and settling down in South Walkerville to raise their family. Joyce taught Kindergarten and then worked many years as a supply teacher, hearing tester and later ESL Teacher for adults. She was active in the United Church where she organized events, led a number of educational programs and was part of the choir, often as soloist.  She was a talented painter and pianist and produced countless quilts and hand knit items which she donated to various charities.

Joyce and Jim loved travelling and exploring North America, packing the kids in a camper to head out on extensive road trips across the continent. They also loved spending summers with their family at Invercairn Beach on Lake Huron where they had many lifelong friendships, retiring there in 1985. “The Lake” and nearby town of Forest became home and well-loved gathering place for family. She was above all proud of, and devoted to, her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. We will always be grateful for her loving warmth.

A private funeral will be held by the family.  If you wish, donations can be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, an organization Joyce valued greatly. https://von.ca/en/donate-von
