Obituary of Bill Havens

Peacefully, at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, on Friday, September 22, 2023, William Wesley “Bill” Havens, of Rodney, passed away at the age of 100 years.  Predeceased by his loving wife, Nina (née Knott) (2010) to whom he was married for 62 years.  Loving father of Linda (Peter) Tgahrt, Neil (Pat) Havens and Carol (Maarten) Bloemen.  Cherished grandfather of Chris (Jamie) Tgahrt, Nate (Kayt) Tgahrt, Nicole (Robin) Danbrook, Wes (Seren) Havens, Alyssa Havens and Nicolaas and Darcy Bloemen.  Special great-grandfather of Everly and Emmy Tgahrt, Jacob, Benson and Maddox Danbrook and Rayna and Wyatt Havens.  Dear brother of Mary Hale, of Michigan.  Survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by siblings: Ida Scafe, Gordon Havens, Marg Leitch and Donna Gray.

Bill was born and raised on the home farm in New Glasgow to his parents Wesley Havens and Mary (née Kelly).  He was a life-long farmer who developed friendships with his neighbours, farmers and everyone he met.  He was actively involved with 4-H and the Rodney-Aldborough Agricultural Society, and was a dedicated member of Calvary United Church, Rodney.  Even when Bill transitioned off of the farm and into the town of Rodney, he maintained his many friendships.  Bill, a true family man, was always very proud of his kids, grandkids and extended family.  He will be remembered as a kind-hearted gentleman and for his salt-of-the-Earth persona.

Relatives and friends will be received at DENNING’S OF RODNEY, 212 Furnival Road, Rodney (519-785-0810) on Monday, September 25th from 12 p.m. until the Funeral Service at 2 p.m.  Interment will follow in Ford Cemetery.

The Funeral Service will be livestreamed from Bill’s tribute page on Monday at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made through the funeral home to Calvary United Church, the Rodney-Aldborough Agricultural Society or a charity of one’s choice.
