MEZENBERG

On May 28, 2023, John Mezenberg peacefully passed away with his family by his side in his 94th year. Beloved husband of 63 years to Nellie (nee Pretti).  Loving father to Malisa Mezenberg from Toronto, Wanda Wilcox (Paul) from Whitby, and Anthony Mezenberg (Angela) from Owen Sound.  Proud Opa to Matthew Wilcox (Julia Champagne), Nicole Wilcox, Onastatia Borges (Jesse), Danika Mezenberg (Mitch Bussey), Foxton Mezenberg, and step Opa to Lucas, Cole, Claire Prentice and great Opa to Sophie Borges. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John is survived by his siblings Bertha van Kessel (Grard) from Holland, Tonia van Exel (Gerrit) from Holland, Riek Wijdeven (Martien) from New Zealand, Tony Mezenberg (Wilma) from Uxbridge, and Cor Mezenberg (Mariet) from Holland.

John is predeceased by his parents Antonius and Elisabeth Mezenberg (nee van Berlo) and his siblings Johan Mezenberg, Dina Mondelaers, An Scheepers, Thea van de Valk, Meit Emonds, Grard Mezenberg and Lies Bullens.

John was born in Holland on October 21, 1929.  He came to Canada as a young man in 1949.  He had a strong work ethic and built beautiful farms in Leaskdale, Sunderland, and Uxbridge while working at General Motors in Oshawa.  He then resided in the farming community of Dutton for 41 years before retiring to London, Ontario.  He was a farmer at heart and truly loved the outdoors which was evident in his extensive gardens that surrounded the farmhouse and the windmill on the front yard.  John was a handyman and jack of all trades.  He could fix anything.  He was a loving father who instilled many of life’s important lessons onto his children.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He loved to camp, play cards, and socialize with friends and neighbours. Later in life, he enjoyed travelling to warmer places to escape the cold winters with his beloved wife Nellie by his side.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation in John’s honor on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at DENNING’ S OF WEST LORNE from 2-5pm.Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11 am.  Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery.
