Obituary of Purl Calkins Gee
On January 29th, 2023 in Strathroy Ontario, in his 93rd year, Purl Calkins Gee went home to be with his Lord & Saviour. Purl was a kind and generous man. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was born on July 2nd, 1930 in New Brunswick and made his way to Oakville, Ontario for work where he met the love of his life, Beverley. Life in the Salvation Army had their family make multiple moves including Pembroke, Toronto, Glen Vowell (British Columbia), Picton and finally back to Oakville where Purl worked for the Canadian Government until his retirement. Although life was busy, he made time for family vacations such as camping and fishing in Vermont and New Hampshire on the way to see our family out East. Soon after his retirement they relocated to Strathroy where he enjoyed many years being a grandparent and especially loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, attending his last one this past September. He was an avid Blue Jays fan, NASCAR fan, loved trains and also made good friends and supported many ministries attending Bethel Baptist Church. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverley Gee (nee Castle) his children, Karen (Jackie Hardisty) Gee of Hinton, Alberta and Robert Gee of Strathroy. Special father figure to Bernie (Gina) Bailey of Barrie. Loving grandfather to Olivia Gee, Ryan Gee, Meghan Bailey and Trevor Bailey. He will be missed by many extended family members, friends and all the staff at Seasons of Strathroy.
“Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul” Dad lived his life well and when things didn’t go the way he wanted or hoped…it was still well with his soul. We love you Dad, and you will be missed.
Friends and family will be received at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY on Saturday February 4th, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 pm with a funeral service immediately following at 3:00pm. Private interment to follow at Strathroy Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Bethel Baptist Church or Cuba Outreach Ministry would be appreciated by the family.
