Obituary of Russell Francis Weaver

 

Russell Francis Weaver (July 19, 1924 - January 20, 2022)

 

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022.  Son of Arthur Russell Weaver and Winnifred Pearl Robbins of New Sarum.  Predeceased by wife Amy Elizabeth (McCallum) Hawkins, wife Alice (Cochrane) Murray, long-time companion Mary Hirl, brothers Glenford and Eldon, sisters Olga Trembley and Uline Jinks.  Survived by daughter Linda, sister Olive Demo Vincent, nieces and nephews.  Through his marriage to Amy Elizabeth, Russell was step-father to Betty (Hawkins) Graham Hogg, the late Donald Hawkins, and the late Aubrey McCallum, as well as a loving grandfather and great-grandfather.  He will be fondly remembered by many friends, including those at Mansion Towers Apartments, St. Thomas.

 

Russ served as a tail-gunner in WWII training at Wellsbourne Mountford, RAF Gaydon, UK.  He re-enlisted in the RCAF as an instrument technician and was stationed at: Centralia, ON; Gimli, Rivers, and Portage La Prairie, MB; and, Greenwood, NS, before retiring in 1974.  He was an avid camper, badminton player, jogger, walker and hiker, travelling extensively throughout North America in pursuit of warmer weather and sunshine.  Russ found great strength in his faith and attended the New Sarum Baptist Church.

 

Russ's family would like to express sincere gratitude to all the staff at Parkwood Institute.  Their kind care and attention over the last two years has been greatly appreciated.

 

As per Russell's request, his remains have been donated to Body Bequeathal Program, Schulich School of Medicine, Western University.  A private burial will therefore be held at a later date.  Donations, in his memory, to your favourite charity.
