I last saw grandpa in August, just after the Canadian border opened to Americans. While it has always been hard to live so far from family, I have always cherished my visits. I have so many wonderful memories of Grandpa: - staying with him and Grandma for a week in the summer - so many fishing trips, in Lake Erie and the Caloosahatchee River - playing cards and doing puzzles - listening to his stories - singing Christmas carols - summer barbecues out by the pine trees - popping the hood on my first car - giving him a tour of my first house (which is from the same era as he was) - seeing him play with my kids I learned so much from him about prioritizing what matters, working hard, and not worrying about what other people think. I love how he always made me feel special, the weird laugh he did when he was about to chase and tickle you, and of course, the big hugs. I miss you, Grandpa, and I wish I could have learned Hungarian sooner! Viszontlatasra!

Doug and I would like to offer our condolences to the Kuranyi family. We had the opportunity to get to know most of Joe and Erna's children over the years. Our thoughts are with all of you as you move forward after the loss of your father, Joe.
Sincerely, Doug and Joanne Pinter

Gwen and I send along our deepest condolences and love for Joe and his family. We have known Joe and most of his family for many years, and have a deep and abiding respect for him. Joe shared many stories of his life, youth and fatherly pride over the years, at meetings, on the golf course, while driving to functions, and over meals. His was a life of hard work and humility. I will truly miss Joe.
As President of the Kiwanis Club of Rodney, I wish to offer thanks from the Kiwanians past and present, for Joe's faithful service and dedication, for his friendship and camaraderie, his generosity and quick wit! The Club was planning to honour him at a meeting in January, but sadly, we waited too long. We will invite family members to a posthumous presentation instead. I am so sorry that I did not personally attend the visitation today, learning of it only on Saturday night.
Blessings prayers, and hugs to you all

We were sorry to hear of Uncle Joes passing. We did not get together as much as we should have but could always count on him coming to family events. He was always kind and thoughtful and it was always a pleasure to talk with him. He will truly be missed.

Mom passes on her deepest condolences to Erna and the family on Joe's passing. She will carry her fond memories of him forever. Mom is sorry she cannot come in person but her heart is there with all of the Kuranyi family as are her wonderful stories of gatherings together with friends in the early West Lorne years. Some of those stories have become embellished a bit but they are super special to listen to. From the original three girls to a group of six or more going to dances, parties and the like. The years may have aged us but the memories never fade. With deepest sympathies I can only offer until we meet again. Hugs.

Joe was a self-made success story who with his wife Erna, raised 6 children. He went up the ladder and eventually built a huge farming empire. He always said it like it is, and we knew where we stood with Joe. Dad was generous with everything he had. He picked up 2nd and 3rd jobs curing tobacco for many area farmers. When he would go the back routes from farm to farm, he would teach his teens with extreme patience and help them get their driver’s licenses the first try. He loved every one of his children and would always insert his child’s name into the sentence like “you are my favourite”, and then he would smile. Ever the fun dad in order to wake his ‘flock’ in the mornings, dad would stand at the bottom of the stairs and caw like a rooster. He was an honest and very hard-working man. Dad gave people around him the benefit of the doubt at least once.

Joe Kuranyi was proud to be a farmer. Like every farmer he had many skills and a discipline that have been repeated throughout the generations of his family. Dad took great pride in his family and each generation brought a bigger smile to his face. Dad cherished every moment he spent with his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He was a man who could stand tall as a role model or get down on the floor to build lego barns with a happy child throughout the years. We miss you Dad but your legacy lives on through the family you created. Safe journey Dad, we take comfort in knowing we have you watching over us from above.

Salt of the earth, the greatest role model of a husband, parent, grandparent, a trusted friend and a dedicated member of the community, he was loved and respected by so many and will always be remembered. Mr. and Mrs. Kuranyi showed me real love, and I will always carry it in my grateful heart. Stella Baker
