It is with very heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Maria Jose Ventura Alves (nee DaPonte), at her home on Saturday January 16th, 2021 at the age of 74. Beloved wife of Sal Alves, for 50 years, loving mother of Jason (Jennifer Pikor) and James (Sandra Rebelo) and adoring grandmother to her four grandchildren, Vincent, Simon, Jaiden and Jordan who will all dearly miss her. She will also be fondly missed by her sister, Emeria (Albert) Soares and her brothers John (Leona) DaPonte, Henry (Rose) DaPonte, Jimmy DaPonte, bothers- in-law, David Alves and Luciano Alves and her many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents, Henry and Eva DaPonte. Maria was born in Sao Miguel, Portugal but lived most of her life in Strathroy, ON where she and her family were the first Portuguese family to settle, when Maria was 9 years old. Maria worked many years as dental assistant. She will always be remembered for her contagious smile and laugh and her ability to meet and talk to new people and make new friends wherever she went. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to University Hospital LHSC or a favoured charity of your choice.
