Thank you Felicia for sharing your mom with me
Thank you Kevin for sharing your mother-in-law with me
Thank you Nim for sharing your grandmother with me
I spent many hours on the living room sofa with Bette listing to stories, drinking tea, laughing, singing, and eating (plenty of) ice cream.
The stories I will keep in my heart forever.
The ones which she shared the most, with great joy and love, were the ones about her beautiful, caring, wonderful daughter.

So lovely to see all the photos, Felicia.
I have a very vivid memory of your mom when we played Scrabble about 30 years ago. I was a Scrabble Queen (in my mind) at the time and arrogant about it. I remember she put down the word "em" and I refused to believe that it was a word. She was just as adamant that it was. Anyway, she was absolutely right, and eventually won the game. I never forgot that because a) she beat me and bruised my ego, and b) when I became a freelance copy editor just a few years later, I had to tell a hyphen apart from an en dash or an em dash. To this day, every time I mark up an "em" dash, I hear her voice in my head saying "it's the size of the letter "m" everybody knows that".
My condolences to you, Kevin and Nim.
Much love to you,
Bea

Yesterday was a fitting farewell for our dear friend Bette.
So many fond memories from the times she used to babysit the kids, our years together in the O.R., our many bingo sessions and going out for lunch when I visited her on St. Clair.
Even though her memory was not the best later on she always knew who I was when we talked. Bette would always end the conversation with “Love you.” We feel the same way Bette!
Our deepest condolences to you Felicia, Kevin and Nimue. She always talked about you all.
With love,
Giovanni, Veryl, Ashleigh & Ryan

I will remember those moments when you were filled with joy - like when you delighted in the flowers at Allan Gardens on a winter day, or when we lunched on massive hamburgers at the Detroit Eatery. I especially liked bringing Lucy with me when I visited you because that little dog made you light up! Farewell Bette. You are now at peace!

That funeral just helped everything!
I have only known Bett the last two years, so not during her most robust years. But not one of those stories told today is hard to believe from the woman with a great big smile and a huge twinkle in her eye. And the only reason I came to know her was by Felicia sharing her so generously. Of course you would want to meet my mother! Of course.
I loved the Willie Nelson, I loved the idea of hanging out at the local variety store and greeting everyone who came in and made them part of the conversation. This is the colour and salt that Bill spoke of that will remain. And I love that you knew Felicia that breaking out in a dance was the right, fitting and deeply respectful thing to do at your mother's funeral.
So much love to you Felicia, Kevin and Nim.
That was a beautiful funeral celebrating a beautiful life.
The candle might be cake, but let's believe that it is ice cream.

Thank you for sharing these memories with us, as we shared many tears along with you.
We particularly enjoyed the dance! Lili said to me "If I don't have that, don't let me get married."
I remember cleaning out Bette's house with you Felicia, and visiting her on O'Connor, to see her many pics of you and hear stories about her nursing days. We are very grateful that she made you, and you and Kev made Nim.
Love,
Glenys, Emmanuel, Lili & Tristan

Bette, I loved the way you lit up when Lucy accompanied me on me visits with you. I enjoyed watching you delight in the beauty of Allan Gardens when it was cold. And you never said no to a big juicy hamburger. Farewell Bette. You are now at peace.

Felicia, Kev and Nim - sending you lots and lots and lots of love. Em and I loved visiting Bette and playing boggle with her. She was an expert by the way! There was always a feeling of calm acceptance when we enjoyed her company. Grateful to have spent some time with her. xoxo
