Obituary of Jean Edwards
Edwards, Mrs. Jean R. (nee McGill)
Passed away peacefully at Watford Quality Care, Watford, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, in her 89th year. She is survived by her children Rick Mitchell of Watford, and Jan (Cary) Adams of Oklahoma City, and Joan Westgate (Jerry) of Watford, and Brian (Caren) Edwards of Beamsville. Grandma Jean is also survived by seven grandchildren, Tracey (Frank) Dorman, Terri-Ann Westgate, Trisha Westgate, Ashley Peters (Tim), Jaime (J.) Ricard, Jalene Mitchell (Shawn), Jariott Mitchell, Cassie Edwards. Proud great grandma of Kirklin and Scott Dorman, Max Westgate, Hunter and Harleigh Mitchell-Hilman, Jada Muxlow and Donavan Ricard, Anthony Newman, Christopher and Lindsey Peters.
Jean served in WWII as a sergeant stationed in Ottawa. On return from this service she moved to Watford and married Robert Mitchell where together they built their home on Huron Street and lived there until Robert's passing in 1983. Jean was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Watford Branch #172 and served as Women's Auxiliary President from 1985-86. Jean was the first female councilor for Watford during 1971-73 and was proud to represent her community.
In 1987, Jean married her high school sweetheart, Walter "Ray" Edwards. They moved to an apartment in Sarnia where they loved to entertain their friends and family. Jean loved to play games with her grandchildren, great-grandcihldren and her nieces and nephews and often would take them to Canatara Park for visits.
Friends may call at the WATFORD CHAPEL OF DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 232 Warwick Street, Watford, on Thursday, October 13, 2011, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A Legion service will take place at the Funeral Home at 6:50 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Friday morning at 11:00 am with Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. Interment to follow at the Watford Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Sarnia chapter of the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
