Obituary of John Edward Eugene Maxner

Maxner: John “Max” Edward Eugene 1936-2020 “If you lead a good life and say your prayers every night, when you die, you’ll go to Cape Breton” With his loving wife of 67 years and family by his side, John passed away peacefully at home on June 6th, 2020 at the age of 83. John was a fun loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbour. His quick wit, sense of humour, generous nature, selfless support and love of life endeared him to all who knew him. John will be greatly missed by the love of his life Rose (Mary Rochelle Monahan), his children Melinda Maxner, Cindy (Alan) Matthews, Janice (Dan) Childs, Glenda (Shawn) Enright, Wendy (Randy) Robinson and his 15 grandchildren and 29 1/2 great grandchildren all of whom he loved and cherished dearly. John also leaves behind his sister Ethel McDonald, sister-in-law Isabel McPhee, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Predeceased by his parents, Charles Earl Maxner, Blanche Maxner (nee Simmons), brother Fredrick Maxner and sadly many extended family members. Always the life of the party, John relished in the laughter of others. Whether surrounded by family and friends, playing his weekly golf or poker game with “the boys”, pulling shenanigans at the gym with his partner in crime or having a drink with his Coca-Cola buddies, John made the best of every moment and lived his life to the fullest. “A perfect idea of freedom and flight is limited by nothing at all” - Jonathan Livingston Seagull Cremation has taken place; a celebration of John’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (Cpff.ca) is greatly appreciated by the family. Online condolences and donations can be made at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to DENNING’S OF STRATHROY.
