Dear Susan, Kelly, Krista, Brenda and Families,
I will remember "Uncle Jim" to be a kind, caring and tender man who always took time to ask thoughtful questions and listen with interest and sincerity. As a child visiting Rodney to see Nana and Papa (Emerson & Mary Padfield), it was always a novelty and special destination to ride our bikes up to his house, and I can recall growing up thinking that it was the same house as Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation!
It is a true testament to his outstanding character to note how far-reaching this grief will be felt. My sympathies to all grieving.

It was with great sadness to hear of the passing of Jim. The first time I met Uncle Jim was back in the late 80’s. I was attending my first OAOA conference with my brother Steve. Jim made me feel so welcomed and comfortable and from that moment on, I knew this person would have a large influence in my life. As time would have it, it did… from assisting me in purchasing my Service, working on the OAOA board of directors to becoming my business partner in 2000. Through all of those times, I always felt Jim was more of an older brother. He was like family. We will miss him dearly. God speed my friend. You will be missed.

To Susan, Kelly & Krista and your families.
I was shocked and saddened to read of Jim's passing in the LFP this morning. I have fond memories of Jim dating back to high school days and riding the Rodney bus to West Elgin High School -- Jim always seemed to be in charge of the bus and all of us on the bus!!
In later years, it was my privilege to work with JIm in a professional capacity as his lawyer -- so many meetings, so many projects, so many laughs. As a fellow 'Rodneyite', I'd always ask how things were in the old home town--his answer was always the same, 'Things are still the same in Hooterville!'
JIm was the consummate professional in every area of business he tackled; he never seem to be flustered, always looking for the positive in every challenge. HIs love for his family was always evident to me, and his love and dedication to Rodney, the Funeral Home, the Ambulance Service, and the Ambulance Association were without question.
Jim was a true gentleman! He will be missed by many, but most of all by his family--our love and prayers go out to you all; May the Lord wrap His arms of comfort around all of you!

Jim was a fellow Board Member with me at Guaranteed Funeral Deposits Of Canada a number of years ago. I will always remember that Jim assisted me while I was President in the recruitment of a new Executive Director for GFD. He was a great inspiration, thoughtful and a strong presence at the table, when we needed that guidance. I had an opportunity to connect with him and reminisce with a few past GFD Board Members, at an OFSA Annual Meeting that was held at Blue Mountain two years ago. I am most thankful for that chance meeting and opportunity.
Rest well Uncle Jim.

My condolences at this most difficult time. Lots of fond memories of Jim and our working days together come flooding back to me as I comprehend Jim's sudden passing. I considered it an honour to have work with such a talented and compassionate funeral director and I am proud to call him my friend.
Jim and Susan took the time from their busy worlds to come up and help with the dedication ceremony on the opening of my funeral home in 2006 and I will always remember that thoughtfulness and kindness shown. I was able to take part in the dedication ceremony of the Rodney Chapel as well work in the beginning renovations of the West Lorne Chapel and together serve those communities for a number of years along with Jim. As a person who grew up in Clachan with Jim all be it with him being a few years older we where not playmates per say.
We (our gang) where probably more of a pain in the neck to him back then than anything! The memory I have today is Jim hitting golf balls back and forth over the Clachan road at holes he had on both sides. Maybe part of his intertest in golf was the etiquette part of the game because etiquette and attention to detail defined him as a person and in all of his accomplishments .
Will miss his chats regarding Clachan when our paths did cross.

Dear Susan and family,
Jim and I were very saddened to hear of Jim’s sudden passing. His calm and professional manner and his extraordinary wit will be missed by many.
You could always call on Jim to fill in as a MC or commentator, or provide a sound system (last minute) for the Rodney Pool end of summer synchronize swim show.....
We have many Jim-isms, the one we might mention is hitting golf balls across the pond one very cold New Years Eve. It was his idea to use a piece of banana as a tee, since the ground was frozen.
His memories will live on in our hearts.

One of my favourite memories of Jim is from a Greek trip Sue and Jim and Mac and I spent together. Both Jim and Mac were not the best of sailors yet we were on a boat for several days. The two of them sat side by side, sharing stories and staring at the horizon....hoping against hope this would keep them from being seasick. It did. Of course, being neighbours for so many years, I used to enjoy Jim’s dry sense of humour. He was also an excellent speaker and impressed us often when he was called upon to speak. He also coached Kristen, our daughter and Krista, his daughter in baseball ....such a many faceted man. He will be missed.

Dear Susan, Kelly, Krista & families
From our days of growing up in Clachan, Jim coming down to the farm, lots of play time as well helping out when it was hay & straw baling time, lots of fun times were had by all. I recall one evening Jim & Susan came for dinner after my brother, Wayne had passed away & as we were eating, mention of Wayne came up in conversation & a small stained glass that hung on kitchen window over the sink fell off & landed unbroken. I recall Jim clearly saying that made my hair stand up on my neck, Wayne was letting us know he heard us or so we thought. Over the years we remained in touch & if it wasn't Jim asking a question about the family tree, or something that happened with Aunt Dorie, it was sending Birthday & Christmas wishes or just catching up
with what was happening in our lives. We will miss Jim very much.
