Obituary of George William Abel

Passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at Chatham-Kent Hospice in his 78th year on Thursday, November 14th, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Bernice (Martin, 2008) Abel. Loving father to George Abel Jr. (the late Jeanette Abel, Leslynn Flegel), Mary-Beth (Scott) Syrie , Bill (the late Melanie) Abel and Lee-Ann (Matt) Van Zelst. Cherished Papa to Justin Syrie, Joshua Syrie, Brandon Van Zelst (Daliah Mesquita) and Nicole Abel. George will be missed by his sisters Florence Abel-Mathewson, Bonnie Myers, and Mary-Anne (Paul) Vigil. Special friend to Pat Spears. Predeceased by his sister Marjorie Poissant, brothers-in-law Dave Mathewson and Gerald Myers. George will be remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends. George retired from Oxford Automotive after 30 plus years of service.  George was a frequent vistor at the Blenheim Senior Center where he enjoyed participating in their activities. He was an avid dart player in the Chatham Legion leagues. According to George's wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held at Denning's of Chatham on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 12 p.m.  Pastor James Tiffin officiating. Interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Donations in memory of George may be made by cheque payable to Chatham-Kent Hospice or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
