Obituary of John Douglas Burchill

After a brief illness and a history of medical challenges, Doug passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit at University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 6, 1943, in London, Ontario, Doug was the devoted husband of Beatrice (Campbell) Burchill for 58 wonderful years. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Gwen Burchill, and his sister, Penny Handford. Doug will be deeply missed by his sisters Brenda Touzot and Jacqueline Mead; his children Scott, Michelle (Brad), and Janice (Joseph); and his cherished grandson, Damian Van Der Klugt.

Doug graduated from Western Ontario Agricultural School in 1964 and earned his Bachelor of Agricultural Science from the University of Guelph in 1971. His lifelong passion for agriculture and animals led him to a fulfilling career with several companies, including Agricrop in crop insurance. At home, Doug found joy in his vegetable garden, sharing its bounty with family and friends—a true labor of love.

Known for his infectious laugh and love of good company, Doug spent countless hours at the local coffee shop, swapping jokes and stories. After moving from the farm to Strathroy in 2020, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams, playing cards weekly, and staying connected with friends.

Doug and Beatrice treasured their annual vacations to St. Maarten and Pigeon Forge, but their greatest joy was music and dancing, which brought them lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.

Denning’s of Strathroy will be hosting an afternoon for sharing memories, on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 2pm-5pm.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will follow at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Ridgetown.

In lieu of flowers, donations to SMGH, LHSC, or the London Humane Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
