John Braaksma
Peacefully at Bluewater Health, after a courageous 16 yearlong journey with Multiple Myeloma, on June 28th2025, John Braaksma passed away at the age of 86. He is now in the comforting arms of his creator. John was the devoted husband of Lany Braaksma for 52 cherished years. Loving dad of Jacqueline (the late Neil, 1986) Rawlings (nee Braaksma) and Heidi Braaksma (Andrew McKinlay). Adoring Papa of Caylie McKinlay. Predeceased by his son Peter Jeffrey Braaksma (1964) and his first wife Thea Braaksma (nee Tensen) (1968).
John was an avid gardener and landscaper. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors chopping wood and appreciating nature. John had an incredible sense of humour and always enjoyed a good joke. John will be remembered for his hardy laugh, kindness, and resilience. He was always lending a helping hand and supporting those in need. John constantly advocated for the underdog. John had an adventurous spirit, travelling all around Canada, the United States, and The Netherlands. Above all else, John loved his family. He created many special memories at family events that will always be cherished by his loved ones.
John’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the staff at the Verspeeten Family Cancer Clinic, especially Dr. Louzada. They would also like to extend a warm thank you to the staff at the palliative care unit at Bluewater Health for the compassionate care that they provided to John and his family during his stay.
Visitation will take place at DENNING’S OF FOREST on Sunday July 6th, 2025, from 2:00pm until 6:00pm. A private family service will be held for his immediate family.
