Obituary of Zakkari Dalton Alex Gurchin

Zakkari Dalton Alex Gurchin

April 24th, 1991- February 23rd, 2025

With broken hearts the family of Zakkari Dalton Alex Gurchin shares that Zakk passed away at Four Counties Hospital in Newbury on February 23rd, 2025 after his long battle with cancer. Zakk is survived by his devoted wife McKenna (Munro) and their two children that had him wrapped around his finger Bennett and Scotlynn. McKenna, Bennett and Scotlynn were his whole world and he was not going to let cancer define him or their everyday life.

Zakk is survived by and missed immensely by his parents Alex and Kim Gurchin, his sister and brother in law Marisa and Aaron Stocking, his grandparents Alex and Sharon Gurchin, his in-laws Bob and Heather Munro, brother and sister in laws, Madison and Brad Podolinsky, Robert Munro and Seana McDonald. He was the most loving uncle to Blake and Rhett Podolinsky and Emerson Munro. He will be greatly missed by his fur baby Ellie his adored black lab.

Zakk will be welcomed into the open arms of family that has pre-deceased him, including grandparents Karl and Christena Campbell, his Uncle Kevin Campbell and his nephew Cohen Stocking.

For nine years, Zakk was the glue that held the Gurchin Real Estate Team together. A family run business that Zakk loved. Helping people and building lifelong relationships.

Zakk had a personality that lit up every room he walked in. If you did not see him at Brooke Telecom for him to chat your ear off he was either coaching hockey for East Lambton Eagles or in previous years the Southwest bullets, or at Glencoe and Newbury ball diamonds playing and organizing one of his favourite sports baseball with the Astros and Muddog men’s teams. Zakk’s love for sports came from an early age where he was always on and off the rink and diamonds then with age he became a coach to children of all ages to continue his love of the game.

Zakk shared his love of baseball and being on the ice with his children by ensuring that at the age three Bennett was on the ice and learning to skate on the same very ice he did in Glencoe and for Bennett and Scotlynn to both be in t-ball and baseball so they could play together in the summer in their side yard.

In 2017 Alvinston became Zakk’s home after McKenna and Zakk bought their first home on Main Street and after that their relationship flew from meeting, having Bennett, getting married twice and then having Scotlynn in all under four years. Their relationship was always in the fast lane but they did not care because they both found their soul mates and they were ready to take on the world together. Even though their time was limited it was the best almost eight years together.

Zakk’s family wanted to give a special thank you to Calvin Ritchie, Taylor Degraw, Jeff Lyons, Bryan Johnson, Brett Murray, Mark Gosnell, Rob Bernardino, Jamie Burt, Steve Morriss, Tori Shaw, Lisa Tizzard, Mel Van Damme, Kaitlyn Mitchell and the whole East Lambton Eagles U15-B team for always being there for him when he needed a friend or someone to help hold him up during this journey. His friends and hockey team is what also helped him continue his fight with cancer and his family will forever be thankful for their ongoing support and even after with helping McKenna, Bennett and Scotlynn as they navigate through this new journey.

Zakk’s family also wanted to give a special thank you to friend/nurse Haley Pavey. When the world felt against Zakk and McKenna so many times at the cancer clinic in London, Haley was always there being the mother figure that they both needed in the worst times of their lives comforting them and helping explain more on what was going to happen. Your love and support never went unnoticed Haley. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

He was and is the best dad, husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend and coach we could have ever asked for.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Complex, 3310 Walnut Street, Alvinston, Ontario on Sunday March 9th 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
